Happy Friday! We’re just one week away from my birthday AND the start of a new Arsenal season. I know you’re not reading this for the excitement of London football, but outside of teaching I kinda schedule my week around this team. The excitement is palpable.
Speaking of palpable excitement, I’ve got a brand new dumb drawing for you this week. This time it’s the front view of the torso. Check. It. Out.
The Color Key
Muscles are in purple.
Fascia is in yellow.
Ligaments are in green.
Bones are in shades of white/brown.
Teeth are any color I choose!
Left / Right Views
On the left hand side, I’m including all of the muscles of the torso.
On the right hand side, I’m removing the muscles of the deltoids, pectoralis major, and the outer abdominal muscles.
Things to Note
Your front has a midline. Just as the spine demarks the midline of the back of the torso, the front of the torso has a midline running from the breast bone down to the pelvis via a long thin ligament. Sometimes during my lie downs I will allow my thoughts to trace both the length of the spine and the length of my front.
I do this tracing slowly, quietly, and additively.
The muscles of the stomach should never be held sucked in nor should they kerplop into a sag.
For Now, Stay General
Just as I stressed last week, I really don’t need you to memorize everything that you see. These images are just to give you a realistic-ish sense of you breadth and depth. One thing that happens to us as we work long hours and get busy with life is that we somehow tune out what we are. This tuning out creates a rather 2-dimensional feeling within ourselves.
In time, I’ll share more exercises using these articles that can help your sense of feeling and balance wake up. But for now, you can just check out the image and go for a walk or lie down. You just might begin to have a vague sense of some of these muscles and bones slowly shifting to life.
